Archery

Archery is one of the most important sports events in 2008 Olympic Games. In the Olympic Games, archery is treated as one of the outdoor games. This popular outdoor event in the 2008 Olympic Games will be executed in four categories. The males and the females will compete in different events. The archery events for both the men and the women, will be of two types - individual events and team events.

The number of slots available in the Olympic Games in the year of 2008, is 64. The country that is willing to compete in the archery events in 2008 Olympic Games, must ensure the possession the slots. One country can achieve a maximum of three slots for the men and three slots for the women. If a country obtains the maximum number of slots, that is three slots, automatically gets the chance of direct team entry. In the very recent times, the FITA has introduced the qualification procedure.

A nomination event is held to go through the selection process of the participants of each countries, who are aspirant of competing in the archery events in 2008 Olympic Games. The minimum score or the qualifying score is 645 for men contestants. For the women contestants, the minimum qualifying score is 630. This qualifying round is FITA 70m Ranking Round. In this round the target is placed at a distance of 70m.

The first nomination shoot for 2008 Olympic Games will be held between 7th and 9th December in the year of 2007, while the second nomination shoot will be held between 11th January and 13th January in the year of 2008. the third and the last nomination shoot is going to be held between 8th February and 10th February in the year of 2008. All the nomination shoots will take place at the AIS Canberra.

There will be a training right before the trials. Any participant can join the training session if he or she is willing to join. The last date for registration in order to get entry to the archery events in 2008 Olympic Games, is 15th November in the year of 2008.

Each of the archers will shoot 12 arrows in each of the matches. In the matches in the early stages, the maximum time limit for shooting an arrow is 40 seconds while in the final matches, the archers will get a maximum time limit of 30 seconds for shooting a single arrow.

A team, participating in the archery events in 2008 Olympic Games, must consist of three archers. Through the Ranking Round, 16 teams are chosen that are qualified for the next round. In this round each team gets the chance to shoot a total number of 24 arrows. The most interesting part of the event is the head to head elimination matches. It is tremendously exciting for both the participants as well as the spectators.
