Cycling is a way of transportation, a form of recreation and a sport. The bicycle carries its riders across land, through over bridges, tunnels, snow, and also over ice, although less frequently. This is known as icebiking. Cycling involves riding unicycles, bicycles, tricycles, quadricycles and other similar human powered vehicles or HPVs. As a sport, cycling is governed internationally by the Union Cycliste Internationale in Switzerland and by the International Human Powered Vehicle Association and HPV. The federation has associated members from Great Britain, Japan and elsewhere. Regular conferences on cycling for transport are held under the auspices of Velo City. Global conferences on the same topic are coordinated by Velo Mondial.
In many countries, the most commonly used vehicle for transportation is an utility bicycle.
