Diving refers to the sport of performing aerobatics while jumping or falling into water from a springboard of a certain height or a platform. Diving is an internationally-recognized sport and is also a part of the Olympic Games. In addition, amorphous and non-competitive diving is a common recreational past time in places where swimming is popular. While it is not a popular participant sport, but it is one of the more popular Olympic sports with spectators. Successful competitors have many of the similar characteristics as competitive cheerleaders and gymnasts. A Diving expert should have certain traits including kinaesthetic judgment, flexibility, strength, and air awareness.

In the recent past, the success and prominence of Greg Louganis has strengthened the position of American internationally in the sport of diving. Recently, China shoot up in a prominent position in diving, several decades after the sport was revolutionized by national coach Liang Boxi. Since then China has lost few world titles. Other significant countries are: Australia and Canada.
Most diving competitions can be divided into three disciplines: 1m, 3m and tower, aka platform. Competitive athletes are generally divided by gender, and often by age groups as well. In tower events, competitors are allowed to perform their dives on either the five, seven and a half or ten meter towers. Although high level meets, but the Olympic Games and all other world championships, usually require all dives to be executed from the ten meter platform. One and three meters dives are performed from a springboard. Five through ten meter dives are performed rarely wooden platforms and mainly from concrete but. These platforms also exist at one and three metre heights training tools.
Divers must practice a set number of dives according to various established requirements, including somersaults and twists in various directions and from different starting positions. Divers are judged if they are able to complete and how well they completed all aspects of the dive. Diving is closely related to gymnastics but it differs in one large way. Male and female gymnasts compete vastly on different skills on a variety of different apparatus. But in diving male and female divers compete on the same boards. Women are often required to perform fewer dives less than men.
Synchronized diving was adopted as an Olympic sport in the year 2000. In this event, two divers form a team and attempt to perform diving simultaneously. The dives are usually identical. But at times, however, the dives differ. This is what is called a pinwheel. Ultimately, the judges' scores given on each dive are entirely subjective. Usually a score of a dive is dependent on three factors, like, the approach, the flight, and the entry. There is a general notion that diving is a dangerous activity. This notion is responsible for the decline in the availability of facilities. But the fact is that supervised training and competition have extremely lowered the apparent risk in diving.
