Soccer

Soccer is a very popular sport played by many of the nations across the globe. This sport is also known as football. The game is played by two teams, each teams comprising of eleven players along with few substitutes. It is believed that soccer is the most popular game in the world. The game is played by scoring goals at the goalposts by bypassing many players and the goal keeper. The goal has to be scored at the opponents side. Soccer is played by foot and hence the name football. The use of hands in any way are strictly prohibited in his game. The ball can be maneuvered by the rest of the body like the head and the torso but not hands in any way.

The teams scoring the maximum number of goals are the winners at the end of the standard ninety minutes sessions. If no goals or equal number of goals are scored by the two teams within the ninety minutes, then there are penalty shootouts and extra time, that is played.

Soccer became very popular in England and thereby spreading to many other parts of the world. In England, the English Premier Leagues played by the various clubs of the country are very famous. The Football Association of England first drafted the rules and regulations that are followed even today to an extent. The governing body of football is the FIFA that is Fédération Internationale de Football Association (International Federation of Association Football). It is FIFA that organizes the World Cup tournaments that is participated by numerous nations. The soccer World Cup is one of the most favored and prestigious events in the world. The World Cup is held once in every four years. During this event it has been estimated that there are more sponsors and spectators of the game than any of the events held internationally in the world.

Soccer has many technicalities that are to be adhered to during the game. There are many ways of passing the ball to the correct fielder who can then score a goal for the team. There are several obstructions created by the opponent team but there should not be any intentional obstruction like pushing and kicking of the players. In soccer, referee is responsible for all the coordination of the penalties and other aspects. In soccer, there are midfielder, defenders, attackers. Soccer first developed in the European countries from where it spread to many other countries with the colonizers. The rules and regulations of the game is governed by International Football Association Board. There is uniform in soccer like shorts, short sleeved shirts, socks with appropriate playing shoes. As protective measure, players wear shin guards.

The dress color of the goalkeepers are different from other players as it becomes easier to distinguish between players and goalkeepers. Soccer has one referee on the field with two assistant referees often referred as the linesman. In rare games there is the fourth referee who assist the referee on the field in his absence. A football field is rectangular in shape with equally divisions from the middle. All the measurements are decided by the IFAB.
